St. Mary’s church is the largest brick church in the world. This immense triple-aisled church was erected in the 14th century and the huge tower was added in the 15th century. It was severely damaged during the Second World War – the wooden roof was completely burned down. Destroyed were also the windows and the floor. Today, the restored church features several masterpieces of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque painting. Noteworthy is a huge astronomical clock dating back to the 15th century. The 78-metre tower affords a beautiful panorama of the city.
