The Zbigniew Herbert-Musical Words Festival will be held Aug. 2-3 in Gdynia and Gdansk, aiming to bring the work of this outstanding poet, as well as musical interpretations of his poetry, to a wide audience.
The festival is being held as part of the celebrations of the Year of Zbigniew Herbert. Contemporary composers in Poland and abroad have created original music to Herbert's poetry. Works by young composers will be played on the first day of the festival. On the second day music by more established composers such as Romuald Twardowski, Jonathan Dawe, Adrian Williams, Krzesimir Dębski, Piotr Moss and Zbigniew Kozub will be performed.
The first festival concert will be held on Aug. 2 at 7 p.m. in the main hall of the Gdynia Maritime University, 81-87 Morska St. The second concert, on Aug. 3, will be held at 7 p.m. at the Gdansk Music Academy Concert Hall, 1-2 Lakowa St.
Before the concerts, at 6:15 p.m., festivalgoers will be able to meet composers, performers and special guests. Entry to all events is free.
